Pappenheim in the 30-years-war

A courageous “Pappenheimer” wrote European history! The Protestant baptized Marshal Gottfried Heinrich, led the Catholic imperial troops under Wallenstein from victory to victory and died in 1632 in the Battle of Lützen.

In previous battles, and other small skirmishes, he won a special reputation, so that his cavalry probably would have been followed him anywhere. The city itself owes this grim epoch the almost complete extinction. One year after the death of Marshal Gottfried Heinrich, the town and castle were taken by the Swedish troops. Almost the entire population was lost.

1703, in the Spanish war of succession, Pappenheim was plundered once again by French troops.
