History of the castle
Kalteneck castle as the castle of Pappenheim was called almost across the entire Middle Ages, was the scene of numerous confrontations of the dukes of Bavaria and King Henry Raspe against the imperial party-goers in the 13th Century. That led to several new and expansion projects, which you buy a new in several waves until the 14th and 15 Century.
1633 in the 30-years war, the castle and town were conquered and destroyed first of Swedish regiments. In 1703 during the Spanish war of succession, Pappenheim again was looted by French troops and the castle was partially destroyed after bombardment.
Once again, the castle gained a certain importance during the Spanish Succession War, when it was shelled for two days by French troops, and finally has been captured. Since then the castle is uninhabited.
