The Middle Ages

In the 11th century the Pappenheimer laid their residence to the foot of the castle, rebuilt in the year 1050. The marshals there were already established.

The rights of the city, Pappenheim received in the year 1288 by King Rudolf von Habsburg, even though the "city" had its own market with the market church since the middle of the 11th century.

The wall-building, took place at the time of Frederick Barbarossa, and it was already occupied, a separate high court for the 12th Century. In the following years, the small settlement on the Altmühl, grew into a stately residence.
